Grooming must start immediately when they are still puppies in order for the to be accustomed to the different grooming practices like brushing, bathing, nail clipping and ect. When you have an older dog or have adopted one, it may be difficult to make him accustomed to all the touchy feely part of grooming. A lot of patience is required when dealing with this problem. However he/she will eventually be accustomed to being groomed.
Different Grooming Techniques for Different Dogs.
It is Essential that you know your pets breed. A long haired dog like a chow-chow for example would have to be brushed every day. There are also dogs that require a once a year baths, in this case, a dry shampoo would be good for him to take away his smell. If you do not know what type of grooming allies to tour type of dog, search over the internet, ask the breeder, or the vet for advice.
How long Should I Groom my Dog
Grooming only takes 15 minutes to 20. It does not take that long. Just be sure to appreciate your dog if he behaves in a good way. The owner must make sure that grooming time be an enjoyable experience between him and his pet.
Nail Clipping
In clipping your pet’s nails, make sure he does not get hurt. Cutting the nails too short would really hurt your pet and may even be traumatized by the experience. If you are reluctant in clipping the dog’s nail, take him to a pet grooming center or the vet. If you constantly walk your dog, it is possible that you do not need to clip hit nails regularly or at all as it the ground be like a nail file for him.
Ear Cleaning
When cleaning the ears, you must check for any type of discharges or odors and immediately report to a Vet. Ear wipes are good for the outer ear parts only. If possible, prevent cleaning in the inner ear. Do not use detergents or any solution or cleanser that is not approved by a Veterinarian as it may damage the inner ear and may also cause infections.
Brushing the Teeth
Failure to brush your pet’s teeth may lead to heart and kidney diseases in your pets. It is also advice that the dog has a yearly checkup so that you would prevent any future problems with your dog’s teeth. The Vet would also advice you what type of brush your dog should use and how to brush him / her.
A dog’s eye can be very sensitive. Check the eyes regularly when grooming and note any discharge that the eye makes and report to a vet immediately. It must also be protected against dog shampoos and cleansers as it may irritate the eyes of your pet.
